information for host churches
If you are housing us
We truly appreciate the opportunity to stay with host families when we tour. Our experience shows that friendships are made that last a lifetime. We have young adults who still correspond with families they visited as members of the choir more than ten years ago!
When doing home-stays, we require that our youth stay in groups of two or more. They are not allowed to ride in an automobile with anyone under the age of 21 for any reason, and adults MUST be with them while they are staying in your home.
Our behavior expectations for our youth are very high. If they do not do as expected, a simple phone call will send them back to the adults, and they will be sent home immediately. You will have the phone numbers of our lead chaperones, who will be available if needed.

Information we would like to know
- Where will we be performing? Sanctuary? Fellowship Hall? Outdoors?
- Will we need to bring sound equipment, or may we use yours? We travel with portable equipment, and a sound and lighting tech crew, who are trained on a variety of sound, light and video equipment.
- Will there be video projection available as we perform? We generally prepare visuals to be projected onto screens with our worship concert.
- Is there a project we could help your church with while we are with you? This is especially our desire if we are with you for more than a single day.
- May we include youth from your congregation as part of our worship concert? We LOVE getting host church youth involved as we tour.
- Do you have a specific goal for our visit?
Crossflame began in the summer of 1996 as a joint project of the music and youth ministries of St. Luke's UMC. We wanted to create a youth choir that would complement our existing UMYF ministry and build on its successes. Additionally, we wanted the choir to offer a new entry point to St. Luke's for youth who could relate more easily to music than to a structured youth program. We especially hoped that Crossflame would help us reach youth in our community that were unchurched. Our initial choir of 24 has grown to a choir more than 90 teenagers in grades 6-12th schools in a 5+ county area.
More than half of this year's choir do not attend our church, and a large portion of that group claims no church relationship.
The CROSSFLAME ORCHESTRA includes brass, strings, woodwinds and percussion.
A small auditioned ensemble, CHALICE is a Sr. High group that "digs a little deeper" into music that is challenging.
The Crossflame ministry has its own budget that covers tour and other expenses that arise throughout the year. St. Luke's buys our music and pays the salary of our director. Youth members and their families work hard to raise funds in support of everything the choir does throughout the year. The largest single annual fundraiser is an annual auction.
