Mission outreach

Every year, our choir adopts a "cause" to raise funds for during tour. The money raised at auction allows us to contribute offerings received during tour to those less fortunate. We also attempt to visit nursing homes, homeless shelters, hospitals and other outreach opportunities while traveling.

On the left, is a video compilation of missions from Crossflame Tour 2012.  In Aiken, South Carolina, the choir visited and sang for a nursing home.  In Savannah, Georgia, we helped out at a Salvation Army.  While there, we painted, cleaned, organized, prepared a meal for the homeless and those in need, and sang with them as well.  In a primarily Korean-populated area of Atlanta, Georgia, we helped out at a children's shelter.  In addition to cleaning and landscaping the campus, we interacted with the children of the shelter, singing with them, and having a good time.
Mission outreach work is not limited to tour.  We have an ongoing relationship with the Black Mountain Home for Children, and support their work throughout the year. We also visit area nursing homes, senior centers and community nutrition sites, providing programs and help for those in need.

  • On our 2000 tour in Ohio, we spent a day with the people at Abilities First. This is a center for the mentally handicapped. Our youth had a blessed day with these people and grew a great deal from the experience.
  • In 2001, we traveled to south GA and were hosted by a church in Brunswick. They had recently bought a vacant "crack house" they were restoring to use for ministry in the community.  Our efforts helped them furnish and equip the house for use as a teen center.
  • In 2002, we donated money to the southeastern Guide Dogs association. We received enough in love offerings to "adopt" a dog and choose his name—"Luke".
  • In 2003, we traveled to Tennessee, including the town of Jackson. Jackson was devastated by a tornado in May of that year and we were able to see the destruction. All money received was donated to Mother Liberty AME church, which was destroyed, in order that they might rebuild.
  • In 2004, we helped with the Good Samaritan Mission near Tampa, FL. This ministry serves the spiritual and physical needs of migrant workers and their families. We spent a day working there and also made a monetary contribution at the completion of our tour.
  • In 2005, we helped with "Here's Life, Inner City Chicago" This ministry serves the youth of inner city Chicago and seeks to reach the whole person, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. We embraced their vision which is inspired by both the Great Commission---to go out and make disciples---and the Great Commandment---to love your neighbor as yourself.
  • In 2006, we donated to the Youth Activities of the Scottish Churches we visited.
  • In 2007, we donated to the Crossnore School in Crossnore, NC. This school is a private, non-profit children's home and school in the western North Carolina mountains, serving children who, for circumstances beyond their control, can no longer live at home, whether permanently or temporarily. Most residents live at Crossnore because their primary care givers are abusive or have neglected them to the point that their well being is threatened. Residents come from all counties in North Carolina.
  • In 2008, we donated to the Red Bird Mission and worked with the Kentucky Coal Mine Mission.
  • In 2009, after two of our graduates received treatment for breast cancer, we raised funds for the local organization "With Helping Hands" which offers support to women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.
  • In 2010, we donated to The Children's Hospital in Memphis, and spent a day working with the Salvation Army in Jackson Tennessee, after their facilities had been flooded prior to our visit.
  • In 2011, we partnered with the Salvation Army in Toronto, Canada for neighborhood service and concerts, focusing especially upon projects with children and youth. In Niagara, NY, we helped to revitalize a church which had fallen upon hard times.
  • In 2012, we concentrated on projects with youth and senior adults as listed above.
  • In 2013, we worked on repairing devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy.  In particular, we repaired and cleaned a building used for training homeless folk to become involved in the food industry as cooks, servers and food processors.
  • In 2014, our projects included home visits with shut-ins, holding music and arts camps for children and youth, and working with the Salvation Army in Beckley, WV.
  • In 2015, we concentrated our efforts on projects with children and Senior adults with Alzheimer's.
